Last year I submitted the Broken Dreams screenplay to the Austin Film Festival. Although the script had good success at other festivals, winning several, the script was not selected for the Austin festival – one of the majors.
For filming purposes, a rewrite for Broken Dreams was recently done. With the filming of Broken Dreams pushed back so Swamp Witch could be filmed next year, it become possible to submit to a few other festivals for next year. So today the Broken Dreams rewrite was submitted to the Austin Film Festival. Hopefully the second time is the charm.
The Austin Film Festival – to be held on October 22 – 29, 2020.
The Broken Dreams short screenplay was suppose to finish up it’s film festival circuit run at a Florida festival in which it was accepted, which will be held in February 2020. I was looking forward to attending the last festival, but after getting information from the festival, they are charging filmmakers extra to attend the awards presentations.
I have attended many festivals this year, not only with Broken Dreams, but also for my newest screenplay Swamp Witch and our film The Exit Bag. Not once was filmmakers charged extra to attend the awards ceremony. After spending submission fees for all three projects totaling $120, I refuse to spend extra just to attend the awards. So I will not be attending that festival.
In an effort to attend Broken Dreams last festival, I have submitted to one last festival – the Deep in the Heart Film Festival in Waco, Texas on August 6 – 9, 2020. No guarantee that it will be accepted, but I am hopeful.
Screenwriter Ron Hervey shows off his medal for Best Short Screenplay – Comedy for Broken Dreams at the Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase on Saturday, July 27. This is the forth film festival award for Broken Dreams.
Broken Dreams has been accepted for the screenplay competition at the Rendezvous Film Festival. This festival will be held on Amelia Island, Florida on September 26-29. This will be the 10th festival for Broken Dreams.
